Here are some photos of the various craft projects that I like to do to relax my mind. It is something about the act of tedious hand work that allows my mind to stop thinking and just be. I hope that you enjoy them and the stories that came about because they were made.

Happy Valentine’s Day…. I got to spend the day relaxing, and so I got out my beads. 2 hours of watching “A Story of India” on PBS, later… I have a new necklace, (can also be a bracelet), a pair of earrings to match, and a new bracelet. Also got to restring/ revamp an old favorite made for me by a sister, Sonne @ Dragonheart Beads. You should look her up.

September 2009:
Football season!

Just a pair of earrings I was making while watching my College football today. Something to keep my hands busy, so I eat less 7-layered dip.

Falling leaves quilt.

Latest quilt – Fall 2008:
Sometimes it just takes a while… babies and such getting in the way of time for quilts. 😉
Falling Leaves quilt ~ machine pieced.
I actually bought and planned this quilt in the Spring of 2003. During the hurricanes of 2004 ~ there were alot of them here that effected us ~ since there was no electricity to sew, I just cut out the pieces. I didn’t get around to actually sewing them together until this last couple of weeks. I have it done now… yeah, just four (4) years. Well, almost done… I still need to quilt and bind it. Which I hope to use a nice dark brown binding when I am done.

Barry's jockey quilt

Barry’s Jockey quilt ~ hand pieced / hand quilted.
Barry had bought me some fabric for our 2nd Yuletide together (1993).  It was a couple of fat quarters of the green and the white.  So I kept it until I found a way to make something for him.  I came across the pattern in 1995 ~ sewed the squares together ~ made the top in an afternoon of watching “Gone With the Wind”.    If couldn’t finish the quilt though until after Rebecca was born ~ until I found the perfect boarder fabric.  I don’t know that this photo does it justice ~ but there are horse heads and horse shoes on the boarder.  I gave the quilt to him for our 6th Yuletide together. (1997)

Mini Wedding quilt.

Mini Wedding quilt ~ hand pieced / machine quilted.
When I was making the pieces for the quilt that would cover the bed on our wedding night I made too many blocks. Always seems to happen for me… a few extra pieces. So a few years ago I took them and made a Mini version for a lap blanket.  This is one of the girls favorite blankets to grab and use during movie nights.

Girls' hearts

Girls’ Hearts ~ machine pieced / hand quilted.

Purple Hearts quilt

Purple Hearts ~ machine pieced / hand quilted.
I know these two (2) quilts look very much alike.  Well… one (1) day I was bored… yeah, right.  Nope.   Barry was home and looking after the two (2) girls…. this was back in 1998 when we only had Rebecca and Daphne.  I was able to take some time to really work on shifting through my fabric stash.   I took all of the smaller pieces and cut them out to make “heart” blocks.  I thought I might get enough for one (1) nice lap blanket.  I got over 300+ blocks ~ cut, sewn, and pressed ~ in just those two (2) days.  I made four (4) different baby blankets for friends having babies.  I made these two (2) wall hanging quilts for our home.  I made three (3) other wall hangings for other family and friends.  I still have several blocks left ~ believe it or not.

The one on top ~ Girl’s Hearts ~ was orginally picked out and made for their wall ~ I quilted little hearts into each of the block centers.  I also put little leaves into the sashing.  With the lower one ~ Purple Hearts ~ I again quilted little hearts into the centers.  I put moons and stars into the boarders.  It hung on my own bedroom wall for years ~ and now hangs on Rebecca and Daphne’s wall ~ since they took over my bedroom.  I finished the Girl’s Hearts in the summer of 1999 ~ and Purple Hearts in the Spring of 2000.
